The chaga fungus (Inonotus obliquus) grows on birch trees throughout the circumpolar boreal forest. It has been a traditional healthful drink and food additive, as it is packed full of nutrients, including sterols, flavonoids, polysaccharides, polyphenols, vitamins and minerals, beta glucans and betulinic acid.
Auntie Sylvi’s Chaga Tea is harvested by hand from a stand of birch in Central Yukon. It is dried and hand ground.
Chaga may be prepared in a variety of ways. A simple tea can be made like any other herbal tea. The longer it steeps, the better. The dark infusion can be added to other beverage, it is especially good with Chai tea or hot chocolate. It can also be added to soups or baking. Your imagination is the limit.
